Knowing that you have a keen interest in Chinese festival culture, especially the

Dragon Boat Festival, it is a great pleasure for me to provide you with some more

insights about it.

The Dragon Boat Festival falls on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese

lunar calendar, in memory of the great patriotic poet of ancient China, Qu Yuan. The

main customs of the festival include making zongzi, a dish made form sticky rice that

is usually wrapped in bamboo leaves into a three-cornered shape, and participating in

dragon boat race. These traditions are associated with Qu Yuan's legend. People

rowed boats and beat drums to keep evil spirits in the river away from Qu Yuan's

body.
