In Hobart, you can see world-famed art, eat freshly caught seafood and climb a mountain
all in one day. Hobart has four distinct seasons and each is uniquely beautiful. Luckily for
travelers, Hobart's weather is relatively predictable, making it easy to plan. Overall, expect
cooler temperatures year-round when compared with Australia's other capital cities. The best
time to visit Hobart is during the summer months, when the climate is warmer and the weather
is more stable.
Brisbane is a city that lives up to its sunny potential with a strong focus on the outdoors.
Add to this a dynamic cultural zone, plentiful wildlife and easy access to nearby attractions
like the Gold Coast and Great Barrier Reef, and you' ve got a destination you can't say no to.
The benefit of Brisbanc's climate is that winter is very mild with lots of blue skies and mild
temperatures.
If colourful characters and outdoor adventures are on your wish list, you' ll want to visit
Darwin. Along with its wildlife and tours, you' ll find rich Aboriginal (土著的) cultures
fill the city's galleries and museums. The city's nearness to Asia means you' ll also find
strong Asian influences, especially in the energetic food scene.
Explore the best of both worlds in Perth, where soft-sand beaches and scenic parks meet a
modernized city of small bars, creative restaurants and street art. The weather in Perth is very
consistent all year round. Enjoy a hot, dry summer between December and February, and a
mild winter between June and August. From September to November, it is the perfect time
to spot whales rising out of the water along the coast.
21. What in Hobart is different from Australia's other capital cities?

Born with a skin condition, Michaela Mabinty DePrince was labeled a“devil child” at her Sierra Leone
orphanage(孤儿院), the last to be fed and the first to be beaten. When an issue of Dance Magazine blew into the
orphanage yard, with a woman smiling on the cover, she imagined a better life as a ballerina.
Adopted by an American family at age 4, she studied and practiced to make her dream a reality. When she was
just 15, she was one of six promising dancers in the documentary First Position. She went on to study with the
American Ballet Theater and became a dancer of the Dance Theater of Harlem. At the height of her career, she
secured starring roles with the Dutch National Ballet and appearing in the film version of Beyoncé's Lemonade.
She was born in the war-torn West African country of Sierra Leone. When she was 3, her miner father was
killed and her mother died of hunger. At the orphanage, she took to turning around quickly and standing on the tips
of her toes, and the DePrinces, the couple who adopted her and brought her back to New Jersey, promised to take
her to ballet lessons once she excelled in English. She was quickly discovered to be talented. With her athleticism
and what one reviewer called her“spitfire quickness,” DePrince became an international star in Amsterdam. There
she took the lead in such ballets as Swan Lake and Coppélia, dancing with“undeniable grace, strength, and
precision.
She had to take a break in 2017 after an accident, which gave her time“to seek treatment for years of
nightmares (噩梦)” about her wartime childhood. She joined the Boston Ballet in2021 but left in the same year for
undisclosed reasons. “Dance with your heart,” she once told young ballerinas. “Don't let the negative aspects of life
cause you to lose what made you want to achieve in the first place.”
24. Why is a magazine mentioned in Paragraph 1?
A. To illustrate the cause of her skin condition. B. To show the unfair treatment at the orphanage.
C. To indicate the inspiration for Michaela's dream. D. To explain the variety of magazines at the orphanage.
25. What was the highlight of Michaela's career?
A. Dancing in the documentary First Position. B. Studying with the American Ballet Theater.
C. Taking the lead in the Dance Theater of Harlem. D. Landing lead roles in the Dutch National Ballet.
26. When did Michaela start taking ballet lessons?
A. Once she returned to New Jersey. B. After she learned English well.
C. Once she attended English lessons. D. After she showed a talent for ballet.
27. Which of the following best describes Michaela?
A. Lucky and mysterious. B. Gifted and resolved.
C. Promising and curious. D. Talented and delighted.

In a study, 152 college students exposed to misinformation read one of two articles intended to give
correct and scientifically backed information. Those who read an article that had“just the facts” preserved more
misconceptions than those who read an article with a refutation—— meaning it specifically pointed out the false
claims before presenting the facts.
For this study, researchers first tested what the student participants knew about putting fluoride (氟化物) in
water. The students then read two articles: one with false information saying that fluoridation is harmful and the
other presenting the scientific ideas that fluoridation is safe and prevents dental disease. The participants all read
the same misinformation, but different groups read an article with the correct information either in a
traditional“just the facts” style or one that first refuted the misinformation. The study also tested the effects of
having the participants read the correct article before, or after, the misinformation.
A post-test revealed that the students still learned under all four conditions— but the group that performed
the worst had seen the misinformation followed by a“just the facts” type text. Those who had read the refutation
article either before, or after, the misinformation had fewer misconceptions. They also had more positive
emotions toward the subject.
With large amounts of information easily available online, it can be hard for many people to sort fact from
falsehood. This can cause a problem called“conceptual pollution”—— when learning incorrect information
gives rise to intervention and confusion in learning the correct information. “Your mind doesn't discriminate for
content. Whether it's a correct conception or a misconception, it just absorbs it,” Danielson,a psychology
