Dear Alec,
I’m writing to share with you a mini-marathon I participated in last Saturday. It was an
exciting and meaningful experience I’ll never forget.
The race was 5 kilometers long, which was quite a challenge for a running beginner like me.
Determined to have a good match result, I trained hard for a month before the event, running
every morning to prepare for it. On the day of the event, inspired by the energetic runners and
enthusiastic atmosphere, I kept on maintaining a steady pace and encouraging myself and I
managed to complete the event successfully.
Not only does this mini-marathon build my body and character, but it also teaches me the
importance of efforts and perseverance. I’m really proud of myself for completing it.

The next Monday, Max returned, but rumors remained. Someone had even started calling
him “Mad Max”, and the nickname caught on. I couldn’t stand it anymore. During lunch, I stood
up in the middle of the cafeteria and shouted, “You guys have it all wrong! Max isn’t what you
think. He’s been dealing with stuff none of you know about, so just stop!” The room went silent. I
felt every eye on me, and my face burned with embarrassment. But then Max, who was sitting at a
corner table, gave me a small nod of gratitude.
From that day forward, things began to change. Max still wasn’t an outgoing person, but
little by little, more people started talking to him. When someone tried to bring up the old rumors,
I was quick to shut them down. Max and I became friends, and he even opened up to me about his
sister’s recovery. I realized how easy it had been to judge him based on hearsay, and how wrong
we had been. Sometimes, people build walls not to keep others out, but to protect themselves. I
never made that mistake again.
