A Hard Pen Calligraphy Competition
To enrich campus cultural life while promoting and preserving the rich heritage
of Chinese calligraphy, our school hosted a Hard Pen Calligraphy Competition last
Sunday.
Students from three grades enthusiastically participated, each submitting a
handwritten poem or prose they liked. A dedicated panel of judges, comprised of great
calligraphy experts, carefully evaluated the entries, awarding one first prize, two
second prizes, and three third prizes per grade.
The competition is successful and memorable. The response is overwhelming,
with both participants and spectators expressing admiration for the beauty of hard pen
calligraphy.
One possible version:
My heart raced as I stared at the deep sea water. “I’m not sure I want to do this,”
I thought to myself. However, I didn’t want to give up in front of Peter. So I took a
deep breath and said “yes” when Crystal asked whether I was ready. Soon, she
jumped into the sea, and I nervously followed her. Then she gave me an encouraging
look and dove down. After taking another deep breath, I also went down. While
leading me forward, Crystal stayed close to me, which gave me security and
confidence.
Soon, I noticed the coral reef and many beautiful fish. Their different colors and
shapes fascinated me. In and out of the coral, they swam, totally unconcerned about
my existence. The beauty of the underwater world erased my anxiety. With the help of
my granddaughter and a snorkel, I accomplished something I had never guessed I
could do. When we returned to the boat, Peter exclaimed, “Oh, Grandma, you’ve
made it! I can’t believe it!” Inspired by my courage in the face of challenges, Peter
cheered up and eventually found another job.
