3. 用法集萃

(1) As soon as the man finished talking, Yu Gong said that his family could continue to move the

mountains after he died. 那个男人一说完，愚公就说他死后他的家人会继续移动那些山。

assoonas 表示“一...就...”，引导时间状语从句。

例：AssoonasIwentthroughcustoms,Ijumpedinataxi.我一过海关就跳上了一-辆计程车。

注意：在含 assoonas、when 等引导的时间状语从句的主从复合句中要遵循“主将从现”的原则，

即主句如果用一般将来时，从句要用一般现在时。

(2) This story reminds us that you can never know what’s possible unless you try to make it happen.这个

故事起帮我们，如果你不试图使它发生，你水远都不可能知道可能发生的事情。

remind 作动词，意为“提醒；使想起”。常见的搭配有：

remindsb.of... 使某人想起...

Thesephotosremindmeofmyschoollife.

这些照片让我想起了我的学校生活。

remindsb.todosth. 提醒某人做某事

(3) I think it’s a little bit silly. 我觉得那有点儿愚蠢

alittlebit 是固定搭配，意为“有点儿；稍微”，用来修饰形容词或副词。

例：Yourbedroomisalittlebitdirty.Pleasecleanitup.你的卧室有点儿脏。请把它打扫干净。

Mikecheckedthepapersalittlebitcarelessly,sohefailedtheexamagain.

迈克在检查试卷的时候有点儿粗心，所以他考试又没有及格。

insteadof 是短语介词，除含有“代替”之意以外，还含有定概念“而不是”的意思，

其后通常接名词、代词或动词。

例：I’llhaveteainsteadofcoffee.我要茶，不要咖啡。

Istayedinbedalldayinsteadofgoingtowork.我在床上待了一整天，没有去上班。

(5) But unless he can hide his tail, he cannot turn himself into a man.

但是如果他不能把尾巴藏起来，他就不能把自己变成人。

unless 引导的条件状语从句，主句是“hecannotturnhimselfintoaman”。

unless 是连词，意为“如果不；除非”。

例：Youwon’tcatchthebusunlessyourun.你如果不跑就赶不上公共汽车。

注意：unless 和if...not 是同义表达，可以进行同义转换。

当if、unless 引导条件状语从句时，如果主句是一般将来时，从句要用一般现在时。

例：Wewillgocampingifitdoesn’traintomorrow.=Wewillgocampingunlessitrainstomorrow.

如果明天不下雨，我们会去野营。

(6) The new couple were so happy that they couldn’t stop smiling when they got married.

那对新婚夫妇太开心了,以至于结婚的时候他们不停地微笑。

getmarried 意为“结婚”，其中married 是形容词，意为“已婚的”。
