一．名词的数

可数名词在应用时有单数与复数的区别，表示一个用单数，两个以上用复数。名词复数形式是在单数

名词后加-s 或-es 构成的。另外，表示不可数名词的量，用容器的量来表示，即单位+of +物质名词的形式，

如a cup of coffee(一杯咖啡)。

名词的数

单数 a bird(一只鸟)

an egg(一个蛋)

复数 three birds(三只鸟)

many eggs(许多蛋)

1.单数

英语中，如果我们要表示一本书、一只鸟、一棵树等概念时，要用名词的单数形式，表示名词的单数，

要在名词前加冠词 a或an。

This is a desk .这是一张书桌。

There is an orange on the table .桌上有一个橘子。

an orange 一个橘子

a和an 的使用区别

a加在以辅音开头的名词前，如 a book，a pen。

an 加在以元音开头的名词前，如 an egg，an apple。

注意

有时 a，an 后面紧接的不是单数名词，而是 a (an) +形容词+单数名词的形式。这时判断用 a还是 an 来表示

“一个”的概念时，要看形容词开头字母的发音，而不是看名词。

2.复数

英语中，如果要表示两本书、三个学生、四把椅子这些两个或两个以上的概念时，要用名词的复数形

式，名词的复数形式是在单数名词后加上词尾-s 或-es 构成的。

These are books.这些是书。

There are many tomatoes on the table.桌上有一些西红柿。

2.名词复数的构成法

规则变化

单数→复数

book(书)→books

dish(盘子)→dishes

city(城市)→cities

knife(小刀)→knives

不规则变化

单数→复数

man(男人)→men

foot(脚)→feet

child(小孩)→children

fish(鱼)→fish

1.规则变化的复数形式

a.一般情况下加-s

girl→girls book→books pen→pens bag→bags

b.以s，x，ch，sh，o结尾的加-es

bus→buses box→boxes watch→watches tomato→tomatoes

例外

radio→radios piano→pianos photo→photos

c.以辅音字母加 y结尾的单词把 y变成 i加-es

city→cities country→countries

注意

以元音字母+y 结尾的名词单数变复数时，y不变，直接加 s。如：day→days

d.以f或fe 结尾的，去掉 f或fe，变 v加es

leaf→leaves life→lives knife→knives

例外 roof→roofs

2.不规则变化的复数形式

a.元音发生变化

man→men woman→women foot→feet tooth→teeth

mouse→mice

b.词尾发生变化

child→children

c.单数、复数形式相同

fish→fish Japanese→Japanese deer→deer sheep→sheep

Chinese→Chinese

注意

这些词是可数名词，且单复数形式相同，所以可以写为：

This is a fish.

These are fish.

另外，fish 作为鱼肉讲时是不可数的。
