1. peaceful adj. 平静的
It’s peaceful at home when the children are at school. 孩子们上学时，家里就
安静了。
It’s so peaceful in the woods. 树林里是那样的宁静。

Finally they solved these problems peacefully. 最后他们和平地解决了问
题。
(2) peace n.和平
It's a danger to world peace. 这对世界和平是一个威胁。
2. convenient adj. 方便的
When would it be convenient for you to go? 你什么时候方便去？
It’s convenient to travel in the city. 在城市里出行是便捷的。
He found a simple and convenient Way to solve the problem. 他找到了解决那
个问题的简便方法。

Thank you for giving us much convenience. 感谢你们给了我们许多的方便。
3. neighbourhood n. 街区；城区
【友情提示】在美语中，neighbour 可以拼写为 neighbor ，所以
neighbourhood 也可以拼写为 neighborhood。
不少以-our 结尾的英语单词在美语中都可以写作-or，因此它们
的派生词也发生相应的变化，如：favourite（英式英语）→
favorite(美式英语)等。
There are shops in the neighbourhood of my house. 我家附近有些商店。
There are not enough doctors in this neighbourhood. 这一带没有足够的医生。

Jack is our neighbour; he lives next to us. 杰克是我们的邻居，他住在我们隔
壁。
Holland is one of Germany's neighbours. 荷兰是德国的邻国之一。
4. bottom n. 底部
There are tea leaves in the bottom of my cup. 我的杯底有茶叶。
She is at the bottom of her class. 她是班上最后一名。
5. step n. 台阶
The child was sitting on the top step. 那孩子坐在最上一级的台阶上。
There are two steps up onto the bus. 上公共汽车有两级踏板。
【友情提示】steps 可以用来表示“（室外的）石头阶梯”或“四脚梯，折
梯”等。
6. noisy adj. 吵闹的；嘈杂的
Shanghai is sometimes a really noisy city. 上海有时候真的是一个嘈杂的城
市。

Don’t make so much noise. 别那么吵闹。
7. exciting adj. 令人激动的;令人兴奋的
We are watching an exciting football match. 我们正在看一场激动人心的足球
比赛。

Don't excite yourself. 不要激动。
The children were very excited by the news.孩子们听到这个消息非常兴奋。
8. pleasant adj. 令人愉快的
We spent a pleasant day in the country. 我们在乡下度过了愉快的一天。

It’s difficult to please everybody. 很难做到人人满意。
They were all very pleased with the news. 他们听到那消息都很高兴。
9. relaxing adj. 令人放松的
It's very relaxing to lie down on the beach in summer. 夏日里，躺在沙滩上真
是很让人放松。

(2)relaxation n. 放松，消遗，娱乐

10. financial adj. 金融的；财政的
New York is a great financial centre. 纽约是一个重要的金融中心。

Are the firm’s finances sound? 这家公司的财务状况可靠吗？
11. church n. 教堂
Is there a church nearby? 附近有教堂吗？
【友情提示】church 是以 ch 结尾，复数形式应为 churches.
【指点迷津】go to church 和go to the church
前者表示“去教堂做礼拜”，后者仅表示“去教堂”。
How often do you go to church? 你隔多久去做一次礼拜？
My grandmother went to the church yesterday.我奶奶昨天去教堂了。
