考向一：定语从句的基本概念及其功能意义
我们先看以下几个句子：
（1）This is his book.
（2）Please turn on that green light.
（3）Do you like the beautiful flowers?
在这些句子中的 book, light, flowers 前面的修饰语只是简单词,它们对后面的几个名词起一种修
饰作用。那如果要表达以下几个句子又该怎么办呢？
（1）
我昨天买的
这本书不贵。
（2）
住在我隔壁的
这个人是卖菜的。
（3）那是
他们去年住的
房子
。
（4）小明还记得
他第一次来广州
那天。
这时,我们会发现,只用简单词来做修饰语还不行，有的时候需要用句子来表达意思：
(1): This book ( that / which) I bought yesterday is not expensive.
(2): The man that / who lives next to me sells vegetables.
(3): That is the house where they lived last year.
(4): Xiaoming still remembers the day when he first came to Guangzhou.
这些斜体部分的句子就是定语从句。我们把在复合句中修饰某一名词或代词的句子称之
为定语从句。上面四句中的 book, man, house, day 是定语从句被修饰的词, 叫作先行词，用来
引导从句的 that, which, who 叫作 关系代词（一般情况下，定语从句放在先行词后面），
where, when 叫作关系副词。
考向二：定语从句的构成及类别

注：在whose 后面，一定要有名词，因为它起到定
语的作用，用来修饰名词。

考向三：定语从句中几个须注意的问题
（一）关于 “ 介词 + which / whom ” 结构
我们还是先看几个句子：
1. The person whom you should write to is Mr. Brown.
2. That house that they are living in belongs to me.
3. The day which my sister was born on is March, 1999.
4. She showed me the dictionary which she paid a lot money for.
5. The man whom you spoke to last night is my father.
考虑一下，把上述五句的介词去掉可否？当然不行，因为句中的 whom，that, which 等在从句
中无法做动词的宾语，那么就要在动词后加个合适的介词，句子才通。因此，这些句子也可
说成：
6. The person to whom you should write is Mr. Brown.
