【基础知识】
I. 情态动词 can 的用法：
1. (表示能力、功能)能,会
The classroom can seat thirty students. 这教室能坐三十位学生。
June can drive now. 琼现在会开车了。
2. (表示可能性)可能,可能会
I think the work can be completed ahead of time. 我认为这项工作能提前完成。
3. (表示允许、请求)可以
You can't take the book out of the room. 你不可以将这本书拿出室外。
Can I use your pen? 我可以用一下你的笔吗?
4. (表示命令)必须
If you won't keep quiet you can get out. 你如不保持安静,就请你走。
5. (表示偶然发生的可能性)有时会
It can be quite windy there, especially in spring. 那里有时容易刮风,特别在春季。
6. (表示惊讶)究竟;竟至于
What can it possibly be? 到底那是怎么一回事?
II. 连词 if
If 引导的条件状语从句，表示“如果....”，当主句是一般将来时，从句用一般现在时。表
示在某种条件下，会导致另一事发生。
We will have a picnic if it doesn't rain tomorrow.
如果明天不下雨，我们就会去野餐。
I will buy some food if there isn't enough food in the fridge.
冰箱里食物不够的话我去买些。
注意：通常分以下两种情形：
1.if 从句用一般现在时，主句用一般将来时，表示从句中的动作如果发生，那么主句中
的动作也将发生。(简称主将从现)
If it stops raining later this afternoon, we will eat out.
如果今天下午晚些时候雨能停，我们就出去吃饭。
2. if 从句用一般现在时，主句用祈使句，表示给某人提建议或命令某人做某事，及提
出建议或请求。
If you are not likely to be in town, please let me know.
如果你不可能在城里，请让我知道。
补充：“祈使句+and /or 引导的结果状语从句”中，祈使句在意义 上相当于一个条件状语从
句。
Use your head, and you’ll find a way. =If you use your head, you’ll find a way.
动动脑筋，你就会想出办法来。
III. 表示方位的介词 in / on
在表示方位时，in 表示在某一地区之内的某方位（属于该范 围）；on 表示与某地的毗
邻关系。in 表示较大的地方；on 表示在一个平面上
in the south of 位于......的南部，强调在某一个范围之内；两地接壤用 on the south of；两
地相隔 (to the) south of.
A is in the south of B. (B 包含 A)
A is on the south of B. (A 和B接壤)
A is (to the) south of B. (A 和B相隔)
in 的其他用法：
( 1 ) in 表示时间，用于泛指一天的上午、下午、晚上等；用于某个较长的时间，如年、
月、季节等。
in the morning／afternoon／evening 在上（下午）或晚上，in 2003 在2003 年，in the day
／daytime 在白天
( 2 ) in 还可以表示"从现在起一段时间以后"。
They will see you in a week．他们将在一周后去看你。
( 3 ) in 表示地点、场所，译为"在......里"、"在......中"。
in the factory 在工厂，in the room 在房间里，in the sun 在阳光下，in the middle of......
在......的中央
( 4 ) in 表示用语言，用......材料。译为"用......，以......方式"。
in English 用英语
( 5 ) in 表示穿戴的状态，译为"戴着、穿着"。
in the white shirt 穿着白色的衬衫，in the cap 戴着帽子
in 表示"穿（戴）着"是介词，指状态，同 wear 一样。in 后接表示服装类的名词或表示
颜色的词。
Kate is in a red skirt．／Kate wears a red skirt．凯特穿着红裙子。
on
的其他用法：
( 1 ) on 表示时间，用于星期、日期（包括该天的各部分）。
