第一节
My favourite poet
Many celebrated Chinese poets of the Tang dynasty have displayed their
extraordinary talents and unique intelligence in Tang poetry. Among all these poets, Li
Bai has always held a special place in my heart.
As a poet, Li Bai's major contribution lies in the exquisite craftsmanship of his
poems, which effortlessly blend vivid landscapes with deep philosophical musings.
Besides, his ability to capture the beauty of nature and the human experience
resonates deeply with readers worldwide. His timeless verses of profound imagery
and emotion have left a long-lasting mark on literature.
In essence, Li Bai’s poetry serves as a timeless reminder, continuing to inspire
generations of readers, including myself. His poems have taught me to appreciate the
fleeting moments of beauty, explore my own creativity, and express my feelings
through writing.
第二节
One possible version:
I took the paper off and opened the beautiful box slowly. Inside, I found a
treasure trove of memories waiting to be unwrapped. It was a collection of letters,
each tied with a ribbon, and labeled with a date. As I carefully untied the first letter
and began to read, tears welled up in my eyes. The letters were from my mother,

written during her time in the hospital. They were filled with words of encouragement,
love, and wisdom. It was as if she was right there beside me, guiding me through
life’s challenges.
Then one night, right after my first birthday without Mama, I opened the
birthday box again. The letters had become my source of strength, and I revisited
them whenever I needed guidance. Mama’s words had a timeless quality, offering
comfort and support even in her absence. I realized that her love was a gift that would
always be with me, and her unwavering belief in me had become my guiding star. As I
carefully placed the letters back in the box, I knew that Mama's legacy would live on
through me, in the stories I wrote with the fountain pen and the moments I recorded in
the diary. The birthday box was more than just a collection of gifts; it was a testament
to the enduring power of a mothers love, a love that would stay with me throughout
my life's journey.
One possible version:
I took the paper off and opened the beautiful box slowly. It was empty. Is this a
joke? I turned and looked at Mama then, and her eyes were open again. Her eyes,
which had been a deep, brilliant blue, were now like the fall sky, bleached and
softened. She smiled a very small smile at me. I knew it was an effort. “It’s you,” she
mouthed. I read her lips. Before I could ask more about what that meant, Mom was
gone. I mean, her body was there, but she wasn’t. It was as if she was as empty as the
box. I cried steadily for a night, a week, a couple of months, and for about a year. I
felt empty, angry, and so alone.
Then one night, right after my first birthday without Mama, I opened the
birthday box again. It was as empty as the day I had put it away. “It’s you,” I
whispered to the box. And then suddenly I knew. Mama had meant I was the box,
solid and sturdy, maybe even beautiful or at least interesting on the outside. But I had
to fill up the box to make it all it could be. And I had to fill me up as well. I stopped
crying, picked up a pen, began writing, and haven't stopped since. The first thing I
wrote was about that birthday. I put it in the box, and pretty soon that box was
overflowing with stories. And poems. And memories. And so was I.

Question 1
【原文】
M: Right, we need to get this place tidy before Mom gets home or she will go
crazy. You wash the dishes and I will clean the floor.
W: OK. You’d better wipe the table as well.
Question 2
【原文】M: Why didn’t we discuss the new order at our last meeting?
W: It was too late to discuss it at the December meeting. I’ve carried it forward to the
January meeting.
M: OK, so we should have a decision in time for the February meeting.
Question 3
【原文】M: Eek, you are blinding me. Turn that light away.
W: Sorry, I forgot how powerful it is.
M: It’s OK. It was just a shock, stepping out of darkness into that.
Question 4
【原文】W: How much further do we have to walk? I thought we would be at the top
by now.
M: What’s the matter? Haven’t all those gym sessions strengthened your legs? Come
on, we’ll be back home in no time.
Question 5
W: Mark took me to the botanical garden over the weekend. All the plants
were very pretty and colorful. They inspired me to paint later that day.
M: I went there last month, but it was so busy that I couldn’t enjoy it.
Question 6-7
W:Good morning, William. I wanted to wish you a happy Lunar New Year.
What time is it there?
M:Thanks, Mom. It’s 9:00 a, m. I wish I could be there to join the family celebration.
W:Well, we still have some lucky money for you. Can I send it on WeChat?
M:That’s inconvenient to use that here. Can you send it to my US account?
W:I’d love to give you a red envelope as usual, but that’ll work, instead.
M: Thanks, Mom. I still have school these weeks. Unfortunately, I won’t have much
time off.
