This chart shows how much money Americans have in savings at every age.
The typical American household has an average of $ 8,863 in an account at a bank or credit union, according
to a recent report from Bankrate that analyzed inflation-adjusted data from the Federal Reserve. That’s purely in
liquid savings, so it doesn’t include retirement funds or other investments.
However, that amount varies greatly by age and household type.
Savings vary widely by household type and age
For many families, this amount of savings falls short, some experts warn. “The ultimate destination should be
enough to cover six months’ expenses, perhaps 9 to 12 months for sole breadwinners or self-employed individuals,”
Greg McBride, CFA and chief financial analyst for Bankrate, com, says in the report.
”Here’s the thing with emergency money: More is always better,” best-selling author and co-founder of AE
Wealth Management David Bach tells CNBC Make It. “You hear all the time experts say, you should have three
months of expenses set aside. Well, it depends. In the recession, when people lost their jobs, three months of
expenses set aside wasn’t enough.”
Meanwhile, other research has found that 60 percent of millennials don’t have enough money to cover a $
1,000 emergency.
In addition to building your emergency fund, you should aim to put around 15 percent of your income towards
retirement savings, according to the financial services company Fidelity.
If you want to put more away each month, start by cutting back on Americans? three biggest expenses:
housing, transportation and food. You can also research ways to trim (削减) your budget and look into strategies for
boosting your income.

no matter how good you are, your success is dependent on how other people such as your boss,
peers, clients and customers perceive(感知) your communication and responses.
So when you come to people who make the key difference between helping you or holding you back, how can
you influence and persuade them to give what you want?
Psychological research repeatedly shows that people generally make up their minds whether to help or
hinder(阻碍) you, based on whether they like you or not. It is human nature. What can you do about it? You need to
make a good impression on others to ensure they like you and give you what you want. Research again shows that
people give opportunities to the people they like best. In fact, most people make up their minds about other people
in the first five minutes or less of meeting someone. These are called first impressions or “moments of truth”.
Once they make up their minds, they tend to be very reluctant to change their opinions. You hardly have room
for error when making a first impression on a new acquaintance. Therefore, whether you are applying for a job,
going for an interview, attending a meeting with your boss or peers, or serving a customer, you need to prepare
yourself mentally and rehearse how you will manage the first few minutes of your interaction. This includes doing
your homework to gather information and researching all possible issues so you will know how to address them if
the other party should raise them unexpectedly.
It is amazing how poorly some people can come across at the beginning. The worst thing is that they do not
even seem to realize it. Despite having good qualifications and excellent work performance, the candidates cannot
be excused from trying to make good first impressions.
4. Which of the following is the way people tend to decide whether to like other people or not?
A. They make quick decisions.

It seems like people today are more easily offended than ever before.
If smoking in an elevator or talking in a movie theater were normal in the past, they are considered to be rude
today. We used to be obliged to answer whatever questions a family elder asked, but now when a prying relative
asks about our test grades or dream university information that we’d rather keep to ourselves we feel
offended, even if they mean well.
The boundary between “politeness” and “rudeness” has changed over the years, especially among young
people.
But this change doesn’t just go one way things that used to be considered rude may also go across to the
other side of the boundary. For example, to stand up for themselves, some youths may try to make statements by
using phone cases printed with phrases like “Leave me alone” or “None of your business”. In their eyes, this is
more like being independent than being rude.
“These phenomena involve rejecting previously moral order to ignore insults, recognize the good intentions of
those who accidentally give offense, and be charitable toward those with whom we disagree,” wrote Time. “They
