模块语法详解
情态动词 must, can, need 等的用法
1. must 的用法
(1)must 没有人称和数的变化，后接动词原形。表示义务或必要性时，意为“应该；必须”，此时
must 引 导 的 一 般 疑 问 句 的 肯 定 回 答 用 must ， 否 定 回 答 应 用 needn’t 或don’t have to ， 不 能 用
mustn’t。如：
---- Must I finish my homework before Sunday? 我必须在周日前完成作业吗？
---- Yes, you must./No, you needn’t/don’t have to. 是的，你必须。/不，你不必。
(2)mustn’t 用在否定句中，表示“不允许； 禁止”。如：
You mustn’t smoke in public places. 公共场所禁止吸烟。
You mustn’t take the book out of the reading room. 你不准把书带出阅览室。
(3)must 还可以用来表示把握性大的推测，意为“肯定；必定”，一般只用于肯定句中；在否定句
中用 can’ t，意为“不可能”。 如：
You must be tired after a long walk. 走了这么长的路，你肯定累了。
It can’t be Mr. Smith. He has gone to Beijing. 那不可能是史密斯先生，他去北京了。
【辨析】must 与have to 的区别：
(1)must 与have to 都表示“必须”，但 must 强调说话人的主观看法，而 have to 强调客观情况迫使人不得不做某事。
如：
You must study hard. 你必须努力学习。
He had to look after his mother. She was ill. 他不得不照顾他妈妈。她生病了。
(2)must 没有人称和数的变化，但 have to 有第三人称单数 has to 和过去式 had to 的形式变化。如：
(3)用于否定句时，must 的否定式为 mustn’t, 意为“一定不要，禁止”； 而 have to 的否定式为
“don’t have to(＝needn’t)”，意为“不必”。 如：
You mustn’t tell him about it. 你绝对不要告诉他这件事。(可能是秘密)
You don’t have to tell him about it. 你不必告诉他这件事。(他可能已经知道了或者没有必要让他知
道)
2. can 的用法
(1)can 表示“可以”，用来表示请求。can 可用于肯定句、否定句和疑问句。如：
---- Can we go home now, please? 请问现在我们能回家吗？
---- Yes, you can. 可以。(表示允许)
---- No, you can’t. 不可以。(表示不允许)
(2)can 表示能力，意为“能，会”，其过去式是 could。如：
He can write songs. 他会写歌。// Tom can speak English. 汤姆会说英语。
(3)can 的否定形式为 can’t，意为“不可能”，可以用来表示否定推测，语气强烈。如：
She can’t be English. She must be American. 她不可能是英国人。她肯定是美国人。
【辨析】can 与be able to 的区别：
can 与be able to 都有“能”的意思，两者可以互换，但 can 只有过去式和现在式，在将来时或完成
时中必须用 be able to 代替 can；但表示“许可”时，只能用 can，不可以用 be able to。如：
He can speak English now.=He is able to speak English now. 他现在能说英语了。
3. need 的用法
(1) need 作情态动词，表示“需要”，可用于肯定句、否定句和疑问句。否定形式 needn’ t 比较常用，
表示“不需要”或“不必要”。 如：
---- Need I report it to the police office? 我要向警察局报告这件事吗？
---- Yes, you must.是的，你必须报告。(表示必须做)
---- No, you needn’t.不，没必要。
(2) need 也可以作行为动词，表示“需要”，常用于“need to do sth.”结构。如：
I need to clean the house. 我需要把房子打扫一下。
I need to study hard and make progress every day. 我需要每天努力学习并且取得进步。
