Paragraph 1

The man thought about it for a moment, but then refused. He said he didn’t want to put us to

any bother. My father explained that the rain would last long and our house was near the station.

After my parents’ strong persuasion, they finally agreed and thanked us all the time. They climbed

into the car. They had no luggage, only the clothes they were wearing. Once they settled in, my

father looked back over his shoulder handing them some tissues to wipe the rainwater from their

faces.

Paragraph 2

When we got out of the car at our house, the three children ran through the front door

happily. My mother noticed all their clothes were wet, so she found some of ours for them to

change. Jill and I decided to share our New Year presents with the children. One of the girls chose

Jill’ s doll and immediately hugged it to her breast. When the rain stopped, my father drove them

to the station. As we drove away, I watched out the window as long as I could, looking back at

their happy faces. That was the day when Jill and I learned the joy of making others happy.

W: Please have a seat, Mr. Walton. I’ve just read your own doctor’s report. So you haven’t been

feeling very well lately. Is that right?

M: Yes, Doctor White. I keep getting a strange pain in my head. It’s been getting worse lately, too.

I’ve been losing sleep for two nights.

W: You mean the pain has been keeping you awake? Now, tell me, how long have you had this

trouble?

M: The pain? For about a week.

W: Hmm... Have you been getting tired lately after you have had a walk? For example, have you

been getting a bit short of breath, perhaps?

M: Why, yes! Yes, I have, Doctor!

W: Hmm... I think we’d better give you a few tests here in the hospital.

M: I hope it’s not something terrible, like high blood pressure. Maybe it’s just because I have too

W: Of course not. I got it with my student credit card.

M: A student credit card? How in the world did you get one of those?

W: I saw an ad when I surfed the Internet. Times are changing, and having a credit card helps you

build a credit rating, control spending, and even buy things that you can’t pay for with cash...

M: I don’t like to hear that. It sounds as if you’ve spent yourself into a hole. Anyway, student

credit cards just lead to spending too much, as I can see here. Let’s sit down and talk about

how you’re going to pay everything back, and maybe we can come up with a budget that will

help you get out of this mess. That’s the least I can do.

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to this fantastic tour of London by bus. My

name’s Greg and I am your guide this afternoon. As you can see, we’re on an open-top bus, so you

can see all the attractions from your seats and you don’t need to walk anywhere. And please don’t

worry about the rain; I’m sure it’ll stop soon. Well, it’s two o’clock and the tour takes three hours.

First we’ll see Madame Tussauds, the museum with candle models of famous people. And then

we’ll drive along the most famous shopping street in the world, Oxford Street. We can buy many

souvenirs in the shops. After that we’ll see the famous clock Elizabeth Tower. As we drive along

the river we’ll see the popular attraction, the London Eye, from which you can see the whole city

on sunny day. Then we’ll see Tower Bridge and the Tower of London. Finally we’ll drive back to

Buckingham Palace at 4:30, just in time for a cup of tea with the Queen. No, not exactly, but

there’s a lovely cafe near the palace where you can get a cup of tea.
