“Whaaaat’s uppppp?” Have you ever seen anyone write like this? Now more and more kids like using these
kinds of words in text messages and online posts. These kinds of words are called stretchable (可拉伸的) words.
Younger people especially like using stretchable words because they sound playful and fun. They can allow
you to communicate strong feelings without using emojis.
For example, one of the most common stretchable words is “ha”. Because it’s short, it can be easily stretched.
If something is just kind of funny, you might just type “haha”. But if something is really funny, you might type
“hahahahaha”.
Another example is “yeeeesssss”. When you type “yes”, it might sound like you are just fine with a certain
idea. But if you use “yeeeesssss”, you show that you are very excited about it.
Although stretchable words are popular on social media, there are worries that children will struggle to switch
to more formal writing when in school. Stretching out too many words can be annoying. So if you like using them
when texting with friends, remember not to use them in your homework.

“But it will help you be a good student. See, all the good things coming from the pencil are from itself. And
you too will find something good in yourself. Finally, just as the pencil will make its mark(痕迹)on the paper,

The match started badly. The Greenford team were strong. After five minutes, Zadie jumped for a ball and a
Greenford player pushed her in the back. She landed with a thump and cried out in pain. Then soon after, Zadie
tried to take a throw-in. But when she threw the ball, her arm hurt very badly, and the ball rolls to a Greenford
player.
“Are you all right?” Holly asked. Zadie shook her head unhappily.
The match didn’t get any better for Westbourne. After twenty minutes
,
Greenford scored their first goal.
And after twenty-five minutes, they scored their second. 2-0! Zadie found it difficult to run. She wasn’t playing
well. Then the referee(裁判)blew her whistle. It was half-time.
In the changing room, Petty examined Zadie’s arm. “This looks bad,” she said. “I don’t think you can play.”
“Oh, please, Ms Petty,” said Zadie. “Please. I have to play.”
Petty thought for a long time. Then she sprayed(喷洒)Zadie’s arm and put a bandage around it. “OK,
Zadie. But be careful. You can’t play your usual physical game. So use your head.”
The second half was similar to the first. But at least Greenford didn’t get another goal. Then with fifteen
minutes to go, Zadie got the ball and scored the goal. Then in the last minute, Westbourne got a corner.
It was the last kick of the match. Zadie was holding her arm in pain. She put the ball on the penalty spot and
looked at the goalkeeper. She ran up to the ball, looking to the left. But she kicked the ball to her right and the
goalkeeper dived the wrong way. The ball rolled slowly into the Greenford goal. The referee blew her whistle for
the last time. Westbourne were the champions! It was the big day for Zadie!
