Four kids’ dream houses
You most likely drew your dream houses using your vivid imagination when you were a kid, but
you probably never thought those drawings could become 3D models. Below are four kids’ creations
that have been turned into 3D models. Moreover, an expert estate agent has even estimated how much
these houses would cost to buy.
Bramwell’s “Tree Tower”: £8million
This Tree Tower offers sweeping views, and according to the estate agent,“The modern interior
(内部) and large glass windows give this home a very modern feel and this is very much what the
modern buyer is looking for from their home.”
Berren’s “Jellyfish Paradise”: £35 million
This is the most expensive of all the kids’ creations, but the estate agent tells us that even with
only one bedroom, it would still sell easily. “This underwater house is quite unlike anything we have
seen before and with the number of entertainment facilities, we do not consider the fact that there is
only one bedroom as an issue.”
Alya and Zack’s “Unicorn House”: £5.5 million
The estate agent was in awe of this brightly-colored home, stating,“The rainbow slide which leads
to the pool is a particular highlight of the house! The mixture of the clean lines of the pool with the
playful exterior of the home is sure to bring a smile to anyone.”

Austin, Texas-based art collector Laura Young purchased a marble bust ( 半身像) at a local
Goodwill store for $35 in 2018. It turned out that she had stumbled upon a centuries-old Roman
sculpture that once belonged to the collection of King Ludwig Ιof Bavaria.
Laura Young was always an enthusiastic art collector. One day in 2018,she tried her luck at a local
Goodwill store, hoping to get something special. When she first saw the bust, it lay beneath a table with
much dust on top of it. It looked so old and worn among other artworks that it seemed that nobody had
paid attention to it. Young wondered whether it was something special and started her multi-year
journey of determining its authenticity and origin.
Young met with experts in the University of Texas-Austin art history department, as well as
several auction houses ( 拍卖行), one of which was Sotheby’s. The work was initially identified by
Sotheby’s consultant Jorg Deterling. After Deterling made the identification, he supported the process
of connecting Young with the German authorities. As part of the agreement to return the sculpture to its
legitimate (合法的) home in Germany, the Bavarian agency agreed that the work could go on view at
the San Antonio Museum of Art (SAMA) to engage the public in its history and story.
“My husband and I were on a road trip when I got an email confirming the bust was indeed an
ancient Roman bust. Soon after that, Sotheby’s got in touch with me,”Young said.“There were a few
months of intense excitement after that. Though I couldn’t keep it myself, I’m happy to send
it to its rightful place. I’m glad that I got to be a small part of its long and complicated history.”
So how did the Roman bust arrive in Texas? In January 1944, during World War II, Allied
bombers targeted Aschaffenburg (a city in Germany)and seriously damaged the Pompejanum (波姆佩
雅努姆宫), where the bust had been kept. Authorities began a restoration of the Pompejanum in1960
and it opened as a museum in 1994. The bust, however, disappeared after the war. After the end of
World War II, the US Army established various military installations in Aschaffenburg, and legend has
it that a returning soldier brought the sculpture to Texas.
24. What does the underlined part “stumbled upon” in Paragraph 1 mean most probably?
A. Broken up. B. Got away from. C. Come across. D. Missed out on.
25. What did the bust look like the first time Laura Young saw it?
A. Eye-catching. B. Unattractive. C. Mysterious. D. Shiny.
26. How did Laura Young deal with the Roman bust at last?
A. She had it returned to its rightful home.
B. She exhibited it at different museums.
C. She donated it to the SAMA.
D. She sold it to a famous auction house.
27. What’s implied about the bust in the last paragraph?
A. It caused a bomb attack on the Pompejanum .
B. How it got to Texas remains a mystery.
