Dear John,

I’m delighted to receive your letter, in which you expressed eagerness for some information about

the Earthquake Prevention and Disaster Reduction Campaign held in our school. I’m glad to share it with

you.

As scheduled, the activity took place last Friday. First, all the teachers and students attended a

lecture to get a good knowledge of earthquake. During the lecture, the lecturer impressed on us the

damage an earthquake can cause and how to protect ourselves when an earthquake happens through

videos and pictures. After that, an earthquake prevention drill was conducted.

I’ve learned a lot from this activity. It is of great significance for us to master some self-help

measures.

It was two weeks later that we heard screams coming from next door late one night. Without

hesitation, my father sprang to his feet and rushed out of the house, with the rest of us following him. As

we stepped into the next door, we found the boy and the girl crying hopelessly beside their mother, who

was lying at the bottom of the staircase where she had fallen. My mother tried to comforted the two kids

while my father ran over to check how terrible the situation was by trying to speak to the poor lady, but

she wasn’t responding to anything.

Father called for an ambulance which arrived within minutes and took the patient to hospital. My

parents brought the children back to our house. Mother fed them some hot soup to calm their nerves. The

kids told us that their father was away on a business trip, so we helped them contact their father who

promised them he would catch a plane and join them as soon as possible. So they stayed the night with

us. My sister and I had to give up our room for them but we did not mind. Before they went to bed, we

shook hands and became friends.
