Dear fellow students,
With the earth day approaching, I, on behalf of the Student Union, firmly advocate everyone to
care about the planet we live on.
Problems ranging from large amounts of food waste, loss of trees, excessive use of water as well
as plenty of rubbish, arise almost every corner of our school. Thus, we are obliged to turn off the
lights and water tap. Besides, your firm “no” to food waste will definitely contributes to what is
advocated as "Empty Plates Movement". What’s more, recycling textbooks and reusing them will
also make a big difference.
Hopefully, our joint efforts are bound to beautify our campus. It’s high time that we took action
now!

Paragraph 1: We sat with Lucy at the freshman girl’s table. “Welcome senior sports jock
friends.” The popular freshman girls clapped their hands, spotting Beth and I join them at the
table. Still, Lucy didn’t move her eyes from the floor. When the popular girls tried interacting with
us, I stopped them with my index finger putting in front of my mouth. “Nice to see you, Lucy ”.
Tapping her shoulder, Beth leaned forward to Lucy , told her that we had observed her for a week,
eager to know something more about her, and expressed the wish to make friends with her.
Hearing this , Lucy raised her head . Obviously, she couldn’t help but fight the tears.
Paragraph 2 From then on, Lucy began to change. The following weeks witnessed a timid
(怯懦的）girl transferring（转移） her eyes from the floor to new friends, sparing no efforts to
express herself with little English, sharing something funny in Cambodia with the popular girls .
For Lucy, being laughed at gave way to being understood and accepted. Beth and I were filled
with a sense of comfort and satisfaction, exchanging knowing looks before giving each other a
high five（击掌相庆）. Seeing smile lighting up Lucy’s face, we felt it had been a kind of
thumbs- up: “ You two are to change the world in a way.”
